What’s New WHAT’S NEW Someone tried to freak me out! As you already know, I have a News & Views Center that brings my readers up to speed on the latest developments in personal finance, stock market, network marketing and self-help research. At the Center, I allow people to comment on articles and respond to other comments that visitors leave. The comments have been pouring in and most of them make it onto my website. Well, the other day a well wisher posted this comment in my inbox:
Hey B. Rene, Thought I'd save you some pain later since you're probably just inexperienced. If Google catches you spamming THEIR headlines on a commercial site, you're going to face exclusion from their search engine. I guess you can try to make a living based on MSN Live and Yahoo searches but it should would hurt to be dropped from Google. Best of luck, Hopefully helpful Gee, thanks, "helpful!" I could have let this message bother me enough to take the News/Views Center down. Maybe this visitor is more experienced than I am and knows something I don't. But this is what I did instead: I took the message and pasted it into a post on a Site Build It! chat forum. SBI! is the system of webhosting and small online business development that nurtures and launches small business owners like me. I rarely if ever have to look for guidance anywhere else on the Web when I need to learn how to take my online business to the next level. By participating in the SBI! forum, I get all of my website advice for no extra cost, and I can go back to this support network whenever and as often as I like! The expert volunteers that visit the forum (many with websites in the top 1%) keep me from panicking and doing rash things when something I read or hear almost derails me. The consensus on Hopefully Helpful from the forum? "Maybe he is the one who is inexperienced!" Thanks to Site Build It! and their "help and be helped" credo, the SBI! Forum is held as the standard for online business oriented networks. That really helps when you run across a unique challenge like Hopefully Helpful!! If you are considering building a website, don't go it alone. Your business comments were noticed! Well, I asked you for your feedback on the last edition of the Newsletter, and you gave it to me in spades! Most of you endorsed the newsletter, which I really appreciate. But without any criticism I would have just kept throwing darts blind. I had to really comb through the comments to find something that looked like a possible area of development. There was one thing: one of you wrote,
Firstly, I am leaving the Pep Rally section out of this Newsletter this month (you can always ask me to put it back!) Second, in terms of stock market investing, I have developed a full content Stock Market Center, as well as a News & Views Center on the latest developments in the stock market. I'd like to invite you to take a look at these pages and get back to me about what kinds of topics you are interested in seeing covered in more depth. I'll continue thinking about the subject of stock market investing, brainstorming areas of coverage from my past business life, and seeing what translates into good online articles that would interest you. In the meantime, please participate with the other visitors in the News & Views sections of the site, it's a great way to get a dialogue going and help me direct and build out the content that will hold your interest. Please understand that stock market investing is a heavily regulated area, and I have to be careful not to dispense advice without knowing my audience, so help me do that by contacting me and letting me know more about yourself. There is no authority better equipped to advise how to invest in the U.S. stock markets than the SEC, and they have provided this guidance clearly and succinctly, granting us easy public access to this information. No investment adviser will tell you how easy it is to educate ourselves about the stock market, because that would ruin their chances at earning fees from you. Look at how comprehensive the SEC's information is, and then tell me from your perspective -- have we been spending our money needlessly on investment guidance that we could have obtained ourselves? Your Car is Ready! Is this the right time to buy a new automobile, given the rocky state of the U.S economy? Well, Marshall Loeb at MarketWatch sure seems to think so. Take a look at this MarketWatch article and see if it doesn't whet your appetite. Right now - as automobile manufacturers struggle to unload their supply amidst staggeringly high oil prices and inelastic demand - I might actually be pursuaded to say, yes go for the new car! (Usually I shop certified pre-owned. I swear by that strategy: you can save a mint on the car of your dreams and get the same manufacturer's warranty on a certified pre-owned as if you bought the car new!) This MarketWatch article is just one of the many relevant and timely articles that feeds through our News Center. Website Owners and Network Marketers For all of you interested in optimizing the power of keywords to get your websites and pay per click campaigns to the front pages of the search engines, and in the hands of the best leads, the folks at ZipCodeGuy.com are offering a massive free zip code database that they have been developing since 2003. Here's why this software is a lifesaver: Targeting keywords on a "local" basis can save you money and get your products in front of the people who are really interested in buying them. For example, if you have a high end product, you'll probably want to advertise in high income communities like Westchester, NY, or Orange County, CA, so that you don't have leads who would never be able to afford your product clicking on your ads and costing you money. That's a quick drain on your advertising budget with nothing to show for it.
