Even though I had to take a short hiatus from the PWC site over the months of July and August to prepare for my professional qualifying exams, the site continued on autopilot during those days and dropped sharply in the Alexa rankings (lower numbers are better). Since I delivered last month's Newsletter, my subscriber list has doubled and the comments keep pouring into my News & Views Center. It's so exciting to be this busy. Take a look at our Alexa ranking! We are now well under the 500,000 mark, meaning that we are within the top 0.64% of all sites on the Web (down from 0.75% as of the last Newsletter)! That's an amazing testimony to what happens when you create content the public wants to read. Just goes to show that if the site's good enough, you can afford to let your Website coast for a brief (and I emphasize brief) time so you can turn to other important things in your life. What’s New WHAT’S NEW I'm converting my Blog to Wordpress! I've decided to take Wordpress up on their free blog offer and convert my Site Build It! site blog to a Wordpress blog. SBI! has an amazing Webhosting product and an unparalleled support network that has allowed my site to flourish right from the beginning. And they have a service called Infin It! that allows me to easily plug third party resources into my SBI! site and amplify the powerful SBI! motor with more content. Since Infin It! works seamlessly with Wordpress, and Wordpress offers one of the largest suites of monetization and design models in the blogosphere, I've decided to take my blogging to a whole new level while not having to change anything about the rest of my site. What does this mean for you, my subscribers? Nothing but up side! Your newsletters will still appear the same as they have from the beginning, as will the main pages on my site. But by this time next month, you can expect the Power Wealth Creation Blog to have a whole new look & feel, and a lot more gadgets, referrals to other interesting bloggers and exciting offers! Today I signed up for a widget from www.linkshowoff.com, which helps publishers to easily sell NoFollow links on their sites/blogs (these are inbound links that won't be penalised but that also don't receive direct positive weight with the search engines - more one this in the next segment, below). The benefits of LinkShowOff are primarily economic -- by adding an LSO widget to your site/blog and listing in their directory, you get an additional revenue stream from advertisers who pay an amount you select (starting at $1) for their ads to appear through the widget. The advertiser in turn gets just one more chance at increasing their visitor traffic when visitors click through your site to the advertiser's site. If you were to compare LinkShowOff to an Adsense ad, just be aware of the following difference: with an Adsense ad, you get paid only when the visitor clicks on the ad. With LSO, you get paid up front just for the privilege of allowing the ad to appear on your site. There are countless revenue streams like LSO on the Web nowadays, and every stream counts! That's how people end up gaining financial independence - one opportunity like this at a time. You may have heard about the power of inbound links (links into your website from another site) and how when you post comments on a blog, you may be actually improving your weight with the search engines as much as if another Webmaster unilaterally recommended your site to their visitors. While this is true, you need to recognize the difference between sites that have a DoFollow policy (one that will benefit your inbound link program) and those that have a NoFollow policy (one that is a waste of time for your inbound link program). Here's a quick way to tell which policy a blog subscribes to: 1. Go to a blog's main URL 2. Select any post, focusing on blog entries that have a good number of "aged" comments (2 or more comments that are at least 2-3 days old). Some bloggers manually change policies mid-stream during postings, so you may not get a true picture for the policy of the blog if you are looking at comments that are too recent. 3. On your Internet Browser's toolbar, select "View + Page Source" (this command works on Internet Explorer and Firefox). You should now be in the HTML version of the blog's webpage. 4. Key in "Ctrl + F" to search the page. 5. Use the Find Tool to search for the name of the commentator's URL for the post you selected. 6. If after the commentator's URL you see a code rel="nofollow", you've got a NoFollow blog on your hands. Unless you're emotionally compelled to leave a comment on this blog, I suggest you take a pass and keep looking! That's the manual way to distinguish between blog follow policies, and it is most helpful when you've somehow navigated to a site on your own and are wondering whether to leave a comment. ************* Of course, there is an easier, more automated way to actively find blogs that maintain a DoFollow policy and filter out the NoFollows. In Issue #1 of my Newsletter, I recommended Neil Shearing's free software, The Real Link Finder. If the software is compatible with your computer, it is a real time saver. Since it's free to download, there's nothing to lose in trying it. A Rambling Travel Log I'll be out of pocket for the next couple of weeks. My family and I are taking a road trip east to visit Quebec and then eastward to the Maritimes of Canada. We were a little last minute in our planning. I first envisioned a set of matching seaside armchairs on the beach off the deck of a saltbox cottage, with seagulls and crab digging expeditions filling up my waking hours - but apparently so did everyone else visiting Nova Scotia this summer. So...this year we'll have to settle for a hotel in the city. I'm very excited to see Canada by car. We just moved up here from New York in 2007, and although we had a fantastic time on our trip to Europe earlier this year, I must admit that I felt a little guilty not exploring our new country of residence and getting into the patriotic spirit right from the start. However, I'm sure you can understand: the European getaway was in January! Can you imagine, trying to walk on a beach in Canada in the middle of winter? No thanks. We did however visit Quebec City in March: it was a winter wonderland and I loved it in my ski clothes. But their weather is not for the faint of heart, and that trip only lasted a couple of days. By the way, if you haven't seen the Ice Hotel outside of Quebec City, it is not to be missed. I will never forget drinking Kahlua & Cream out of an ice glass while sitting on a stool made entirely of ice covered in deer skin. And hopefully, I will go back next winter. Here is a travel portal that gets high marks for excellent travel discounts on airfare, cruises, car and condo rentals, and the like. Take advantage of the last minute deals and don't miss the opportunity to see as much of the world as you can this summer. The memories will add much color to your life.
